How to choose Stainless Steel Tags:

What's the difference between types of stainless steel?
Stainless steel is not a single alloy, but rather the name applies to a group of iron-based alloys containing a minimum of 10.5% chromium.

430 Stainless Steel contains 17% chromium and 0.12% carbon.430 can withstand mild corrosion. 430 is magnetic and is usually the least expensive.

304 Stainless Steel contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel. 304 has excellent corrosion resistance. 304 is non-magnetic

316 Stainless Steel contains 16% chromium, 10% nickel and 2% molybdenum. 316 is non-magnetic
The molybdenum is added to increase corrosion resistance to chlorides (like sea water and de-icing salts). 316 Stainless is much more expensive.

All three types look identical to the naked eye.
